TIPS FOR UNDERSTANDING THE INFORMATION IN THIS CATALOG:

All classes meet on Tuesdays at Faith Community Assembly of God Church, 3000 Freemansburg Avenue, Easton, PA. The schedule for classes can be found on page 2.

Course descriptions for all classes can be found on the following pages. Descriptions are grouped by category, alphabetically, i.e. Arts and Crafts, English, History.

Within each category, classes are listed by age level from youngest to oldest. Course codes indicate the approximate age level of the class.

  • 000 level classes — appropriate for students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade.
  • 100 level classes — appropriate for students in 3rd through 5th grades (at times, may include some younger grades).
  • 200 level classes — appropriate for students in 3rd through 8th grades.
  • 300 level classes — appropriate for students in 6th through 8th grades.
  • 400 level classes — appropriate for students in 6th through 12th grades.
  • 500 level classes — appropriate for students in 9th through 12th grades.

Each description also lists the appropriate grade levels for that class. If your child’s grade level does not fall within the suggested grades, but you feel that the class would be appropriate for them, please contact the instructor or the administration to discuss this. Occasionally the suggested grade levels do not exactly match the codes listed above.

EXPLANATION OF TERMS LISTED IN THE COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Required text: This is the text that will be used in the class. All students are expected to have access to the required text. The cost of this text is the responsibility of the student’s family. Texts may be borrowed, purchased individually or ordered through SELAH.

Materials to be provided by student: Any items listed in this category are necessary for the class (in addition to the required text) and are the responsibility of the student and/or their family. Although not always listed, most courses will require the use of pencil / pen and paper. Please be sure that your children come properly equipped each week with all necessary items. Students who come without these items will be at a definite disadvantage.

Estimated homework: Approximate amount of time needed to complete assigned homework is listed so parents and students will be aware, in advance, of the time commitment needed for the class. It is vital that students complete any assigned homework. Not doing so prevents the student from getting the maximum benefit from the class and devalues the time invested by the instructor for preparation.

Prerequisite: Any special requirement necessary for taking a course is listed here. This may include any class which needs to be completed prior to taking the course, or special age or grade guidelines. Any questions regarding prerequisites may be directed to the instructor.

Additional information: Indicates any other information which the instructor feels is important for parents to know concerning the class.

Tuition: Indicates the charge for participating in the class. Unless otherwise indicated in the description, classes are 1 hour long and are held for 30 weeks. Tuition fees may be paid by installment should the family so desire. Tuition fees are mainly used to cover the compensation given to the Instructor. These fees do not cover such items as custodial / janitorial salaries, or any of the many other jobs that require parent assistance.

Materials fee: This fee covers the cost of the supplies and equipment provided by the instructor or SELAH for the class. It may also cover the cost of photocopying papers to be given to the student. Materials fees will often be higher for classes that involve making numerous projects or crafts. Classes without a required text will also have higher materials fees because more hand-outs will be provided by the instructor. In addition to covering the cost of items for individual students, these fees are also used to purchase curriculum for the teacher and items used by the group as a whole. All materials fees must be paid before the start of classes and are nonrefundable.

Student Instructor: Older students who have previously participated at the Learning Center are encouraged to share what they have learned with younger students in an effort to “give back” the gift of knowledge they have received. These “Student Instructors” are high school students who plan, organize and lead the class under the supervision of an adult.

Adult Facilitator: When a student leads a class, they are partnered with an adult who supervises the organization and instruction provided by the Student Instructor.

PLEASE NOTE:

10% of the full cost of tuition will be deducted for each child registered for four or more 30-week classes (or combination of classes equal to 30 weeks.)
